Don’t Worry About NameDrop

I’ve seen some seemingly alarming news lately claiming that Apple’s new NameDrop feature, which allows you to quickly share contact information, is unsafe. Some local law enforcement agencies and others are posting on Facebook and other social media that this feature could send all your contact information to others without your knowledge.

While it certainly makes for good headlines and stories, this concern is greatly exaggerated, if not downright false.

iOS and iPadOS 17

Apple will release major operating system updates for their devices starting with iOS & iPadOS 17, and watchOS 10 on Monday, September 18, followed by macOS Sonoma on Tuesday, September 26. As with each yearly update, there are a number of notable new features along with myriad smaller, but still interesting, changes. In this post, I highlight what, I think, are the main new features for the iPhone and iPad.

Apple Updates

Apple recently announced new devices and released updates to their various operating systems: iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. These system updates are not the major system updates we usually get near the end of the year, but a smaller collection of features and tweaks. As with every release, there are also a set of bug fixes and security and privacy updates. Here’s a quick overview of the updates.
